Welcome to the Songwriting Exercise of the Week! This week, we will be focusing on the Ocean of Lyrics exercise.
The concept of this exercise is to choose a melody and come up with at least 10 different lyrical lines that work with that melody. You can use a short melody from your favorite song, or create a melody specifically for this exercise. The key is to experiment with different lyrics and see what works best with the chosen melody.
This exercise is a great way to practice your songwriting skills and improve your ability to come up with creative lyrics that fit with a given melody. It’s also a fun way to see the many different ways that a single melody can be used. As you create melodies, pay attention to how the words and notes work together – which words are emphasized? How does the melody change the meaning of the words?
To get started, choose a melody and start brainstorming different lyrical lines. You can experiment with different themes, imagery, and styles to see what works best. The key is to be creative and try out as many different ideas as you can.
So dive into the “ocean of lyrics” and see what kind of creative melodies you can come up with! The sky’s the limit!
