LyricStudio Writing Exercises for New Songwriters

What’s the best way to become a pro songwriter? You guessed it – it all comes down to practice. Even 10 minutes a day can make a huge difference in your writing, turning you into a pro in no time!

Here are some fun exercises to use during your writing practice. Of course, you may just find that one of those exercises creates your new favorite song!

  • Write every other line: Challenge yourself to come up with your very own ideas for every other line. Feel free to use LyricStudio’s suggestions for everything else!
  • Generate ideas based on the same line: Pick one line that really speak to you. It can be a line that LyricStudio generated, or a line that you came up with. It can even be a common phrase that moves you. Then, let LyricStudio generate ideas, but using only that line. Put together a chorus or a song using this process, giving yourself permission to edit LyricStudio’s suggestions and adding your own lines as you see fit!
  • Fix a rhyming scheme: Pick a rhyming scheme such as ABAB or AABB, and write a 4 line chorus or verse using that rhyming scheme. Feel free to use LyricStudio’s rhyming word feature on the suggestions tab, or the rhyming dictionary.

We hope that these exercises will help spice up your writing practice! But, remember, the most important thing is to practice, in whatever way is best for you.
